Thu 12 Dec – Jack and the Beanstalk, New Brighton

It was the first proper day of our panto today, and we appear to have a hit show on our hands if the reaction from today’s audiences were anything to go by.

Had to get up extra early as these two days are timed for school visits, with shows at 10.30am and 1.30pm. Everyone got in way too early just like me, anxious to make sure there were no last minute hiccups. After dashing round the theatre to deliver good luck cards to everyone I was on stage before I knew it.

I don’t know if it’s something they put in the school dinners up here but the kids were sooooo enthusiastic, singing along to the songs, jumping up and dancing and hitting us with a wall of sound with their cheers and boos. Got a bit of a lump in my throat at the end of the first show when they were all standing up and swaying with the music. I didn’t dare to hope that we’d get a reaction like that with our very first show when things are still coming together. In the second show they were so desperate for me to battle to the evil villain Fleshcreep that they were all chanting “fight, fight, fight”. We had to ditch the script and just get stuck in!

Got a feeling this is going to be a great month. Oh yes it is.
