Sat 30 Nov – Jack and the Beanstalk, New Brighton

Today I gritted my teeth and did my best to convince myself that I love dancing, because that’s what I was going to be spending most of the day doing. Was pleasantly surprised to find out that Andrew the choreographer has been nice to me and the last third of our opening dance involves no dancing at all, just some romantic staring into the Princess’ eyes. Watching the “twirlies” twirling away made me feel like there was some kind of witchcraft going on. Dancing was always my Achilles heel when I was doing amateur dramatics as a kid. How any human being can be that co-ordinated is always a mystery to me.

Once that was out of the way we blocked through a duet I have with the Princess – ‘Blurred Lines’. It’s going to be awesome, lots of scope for taking the mickey out of Robin Thicke and doing the least lovey dove duet I’ve ever heard of. Did some of my best “walking up and down” dancing and “standing still” dancing, so that’ll be a treat for everyone.

Rounded off the day with a cast singing session with the lovely Steve, our music director. Most of the lead cast have been in big musicals and have a decent set of lungs on them. Sonia came 2nd in the Eurovision Song Contest, so she in particular doesn’t have much to worry about in that department…
