19 July, South Korea – ‘All Over The Place – Asia, part 2’
I was sad to say goodbye to Seoul today, but we had a date with some stone heads a couple of hours drive away and, I have to say, if you like stone heads you really couldn’t pick a better place to visit.
We arrived at what looked like a closed down petrol station and made our way through the gate to be greeted by a huge, slightly overgrown park, littered with massive Easter Island sized granite heads of famous celebrities and historical figures. The guy who owns the park spends his time and (I guess) inexhaustible supply of money having the heads carved in China and then shipped over to Korea where he plonks them down seemingly randomly amongst the vegetation (in one spot Oprah Winfrey and John Lennon share a corner with Hilary Clinton and Elvis). The owner was away in China sourcing more sculptures, so we briefly interviewed a guy at the park who works there and seems as confused by the place as we were, before running around looking at them all before lunch. For lunch we headed down to a local restaurant for another overly complicated meal before waving goodbye to our producer Maria, who had done her bit making sure Tee Cee had settled into presenting with us loonies for the first time and was now making her way back to the UK.
Once we were back at the park I reluctantly slipped into my Gameshow Man costume and wig and sweated my way through the next hour or so, picking up some nice mosquito bites on the back of my neck as well. Sometimes on this show you just have to grit your teeth and get though it, reminding yourself that this is the reason you’ve been brought to see all these interesting things on the other side of the world.
With more driving ahead of us we had to grab some late night noodles in one of Korea’s super nice and super cheap service stations, arriving at our final destination gone 10pm. And I’ll tell you more about that in my NEXT thrilling blog post…
